Autism clinic prepares for Dubuque grand opening
A clinic teaching autistic children learning and social skills is now open at 6600 Boulder Brook Court.
Caravel Autism Health is preparing to celebrate with a grand opening and tours from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, while general enrollment will begin in January.
The facility, which has a maximum capacity of 32 kids, already serves six transfers from Caravel’s Holliday Drive clinic, with plans to have 11 in attendance by the end of this year.
Open enrollment for children takes about four weeks after an initial diagnosis, two to create a baseline assessment and two more to enroll in the clinic’s direct treatment programs.
Renovations of the newly constructed space have been completed, and the facility has its clinical staff in place. Caravel will be hiring behavioral technicians at a one-to-one ratio with the patient population in the coming months.
The clinic is able to accept most commercial insurances, as well as Medicaid. The clinic serves children ages 2 to 10 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“The sooner we can get kids in, the sooner they can get services that are really beneficial to them and their family,” said Katisha Placke, the director of the new clinic. “We can really help them bridge that gap between them and their neurotypical peers. That way, when they do transition to school, they require very minimal support, or none in some cases. That’s always our goal.” For more information, call 563-334-1468.
