CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new center to help children with autism and their families has opened on Chicago’s North Side.
Caravel Chicago at the corner of Irving Park and Rockwell uses a method called “Applied Behavior Analysis.”
The clinic’s director, Erica Smith, said therapists teach children with autism and their families the best ways for the children to cope with all aspects of their daily lives.
“ABA breaks these skills down into really small, teachable components. It’s all based on positive reinforcement, meaning that we reinforce our Children for the skills. It is that we want to see them do again and again.”
Smith said Applied Behavior Analysis therapy uses positive reinforcement to help children with autism build confidence and develop the skills needed to reach their greatest potential.
